wild berries of northern Pakistan

 

  

The people of Gilgit Baltistan believe this plant to be poisonous.
They think,
its poisonous to pet animals like goats and sheep which go to high altitudes during summers. Once many years back my brother went up to the mountains where he witnessed some pets which eat this plant and got poisoned they felled down, but after half an hours get up, and none of them died, but i personally have never seen any animal feeding on this lush green plant with my own eyes.
Also it's fruits are thought to be poisonous for humans too, that's why no one dares to eat it. But there is nothing like any scientific reason or any laboratory test as proof of this belief.

This is called Drungdrushk in local language, its found at the altitude of  11000ft to 13000ft.
its always prohibited to eat,
our elder say it contains Poisson so we avoid it. pet animals also do avoid it because this fruit poisons them too.

 


3rd image is of  Shatoo, its consumable berry fruit, tastes very sour, its found in almost all regions (in deep high valleys ) usually above 10000ft from sea level.

   He is SARTAJ ALAM a local boy, a student and a farmer. the people of this area are so much hardworking, they study they work and the do many other works as daily routine.
